Mostar Sevdah Reunion
August 2, 2011
Formed during the recent war in Bosnia-Herzogovina, this group of 12 musicians began by organising candle-lit concerts in the name of peace to play native songs about broken hearts and Bosnia’s beauty. Sevdah is a style of music that the Turks brought to the area during the Middle Ages and hence has a strong Arabic influence. While prone to the melancholic, this orchestra of strings, clarinets and accordions does often break out into a more pure and frolicsome form of party music.
